Peewee 99ers edged at provincial championship

The Brantford 99ers peewee AAA team had its record at the Ontario Hockey Federation championship in Ottawa evened at 1-1 with an early afternoon loss on Tuesday.

Facing the Ottawa Jr. 67s, Brantford was beaten 3-2.

Brantford fell behind 2-0 against the 67s after one period and then 3-0 when Ottawa scored early in the second.

The 99ers got one goal back when Marek Vanacker scored and then reduced their deficit to one when Braydon McCallum scored on the power play.

Lucas Karmiris added a pair of assists for the 99ers and after two games, he had five points (two goals, three assists), tying him with Malcolm Spence of the Mississauga Senators (3G, 2A) for the tournament scoring lead.

Vanacker was right behind, tied for third, with two goals and two assists.

The 99ers play once on Wednesday, taking on the Thunder Bay Kings at 2 p.m.

Preliminary play continues through Thursday, with the semifinals, bronze-medal and gold-medal games on Friday.
